08:20 am - "Lips are tremblin', 'cos you're gonna be free."
random musical Metropolis )

For my [info]mollymoon, Alice Hoffman, on how her writing sustains her. Folks interested in the whole series of these essays should click here.

Poem du jour = We Collect Gull Feathers.

Yet another book I have to read. Chilltastic-sounding...

*fusses, dismayed*

How advertisers psychologically mug women. Can I just say that my least favorite example of this sort of thing is how they make the special pink sports jerseys for the wimmin? Pink has its place, but damnit, if a team's got bad-ass colors (like, oh, dunno BLACK AND GOLD), why the frell would you pinkify it up? That's just wrong. Mean and wrong. Let's be honest, here: if you like football, or hockey, you're not exactly a delicate little flower, now, are you? YOU don't want a pink jersey. The only people who want pink jerseys, am thinking, are girls who don't like sports, but are trying to look cute for guys who do. And that's wrong in an entirely different way, because if you don't like sports, and you're after a guy who does, you've got an issue that a wardrobe change won't solve.

So knock off with the pink, advertisers, and bring on the black and the bold for the bona fide sporty grrlz. Those of us who like baseball are, of course, smart enough not to touch a pink jersey with a ten-foot pole.

*snarkity snark snark, all the way home*

And away we go! Didn't have my usual Thursday limitation, and liked it. Must consider making this permanent.

That is, happily, all.

06:42 am - Dryer?
Would anyone who can read this post like a dryer?

It's the one here in my place...it's a few years old., my previous roommate and I got it last year.    It's got it's quirks, but it runs okay.   I would like something for it, but $20-$30 bucks would do it.

It's available for pickup, preferably after next weekend.

The washer already seems to be spoken for.

10:07 pm - Some days the food_porn community is not my kind of porn.......
No other food makes me want to hurl quite like donuts with icing and sprinkles.

Chocolate cake is not devil's food because cocoa has redeeming nutritional qualities.  Donuts are made of lard and evil.

What food(s) make you want to hurl, just from the sight if it?

(By the way that is the food photography community known as [info]food_porn, not actually porn involving food.  I don't know what community you'd go to for that.)

04:18 pm - I can't stop my car...!
On the drive home my check engine light plinked on and the car died at the next stoplight.  It started back up just fine though.  WTF I have shit to do!  No bigs though, as Kinnon will just allow me to use his stinky smokey smelly car tomorrow.  :P  So, miss Pants, if I smell bad when I meet up with you I apologize.  :(

I already have car salesmen calling me offering me incredible deals (or something) because I signed up with Costco's car discount thing.  Except they're in San Antonio.  Uggh.  I am so ready to get this vehicular purchase over and done with.  Not just to get the zomg new car! but also because I just want to know how to plan my finances through the summer.

I hope the Fit works out for me because everything else in my price range is a sub-compact pretty much.  :(   Smart Cars are cute, but so worthless for me.  I actually have to be able to move boxes around fro work.

05:58 pm - Friends Cut
There's still time to secure your spot on Psychic Samurai's friends list...but you must act now!

Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such films as Gladys the Groovy Mule and The President's Neck is Missing. Now, if you enjoy reading Psychic Samurai as much as I do, I know you'll want to take advantage of this very special offer. As a current member of Psychic Samurai's friends list, you are in a very exclusive club...and, as we all know, membership has its privileges. The coolness-by-association factor alone is staggering...but let's get practical. If you're anything like me, reading Psychic Samurai is your primary means of staying on top of world events, entertainment news, alternative philosophy and, of course, vegetarian fast food.

But time is running out, dear friends. In just four short days, Psychic Samurai will cut every person on his friends list...that's right...every person on his friends list...except for those savvy individuals, like yourself, who reply to this entry (comments will remain screened) asking to be spared from the dreaded mouse-click.

So, don't delay, act now...just one simple comment and you will be assured of continued membership in one of the world's most elite and exclusive organizations...Psychic Samurai's friends list. And, as a thank you gift to his LJ friends, after the cut, Psychic Samurai will put up a very special friends-only post - a high quality audio recording of a song chosen by you, the friends of Psychic Samurai, performed by the Psychic one himself! Start thinking of songs now, because voting begins on Monday!

Now if, despite all the scientific evidence and general hoopla, you have decided that being a "Psychic friend" is no longer the cup of tea that floats your boat, you don't have to lift a finger. Simply refrain from commenting on this entry, and your membership won't be renewed...but the pen and the keychain are yours to keep! Hey...it takes all kinds, I s'pose! But if you're anything like me, Troy McClure, I know you'll want to jump on this very special offer like a polecat on a possum's papoose. So...ready...set...reply!

11:45 am - Iceland.
I'm cleared for the time off.  September 29 - October 6.  I'll have to fly out the day after ACL Fest. At least this won't be like the Spain trip where I was basically only gone over the weekend.   I will be there nearly a week.

Assuming I can get it, this will be my flight schedule kinda:  http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p61/texasoddity/iceland1.jpg

I shall freeze my rear end off, I am sure.

11:40 pm - Budget
okay, so some budget stuff happened, and I didnt absorb all of it, except maybe wayne swan can stop going round looking like the boogeymans been coming out of his closet at night.

im all for increasing support for those who need it, and reducing support for those who dont really need it.

but what we're really annoyed about? the removal of FBT for laptops. And while it's a reasonable idea, and im sure it saves some money, it would have been nice if they'd told us they were going to do it. It's not particularly controversial measure, so a leak wouldnt have hurt, and those of us who are going to buy a laptop NEXT FUCKING WEEK! might have got our asses into gear and done it sooner.

Also, thanks for upping the Medicare surcharge the year AFTER we get private health insurance.

In conclusion, Michelle and I are not particularly happy with mr rudd and mr swan right now. Michelle is calling them the laptop killers.

11:57 am - update
+ Last weekend was Alex's birthday party so we drove out to South Coatesville to Shannon's place. Google maps told us to take back roads and the drive was wonderful and scenic. Not a bad drive at all. We had a nice time and J actually allowed my father to play with Ethan. The two of them had a good time. On the drive back we got stuck in traffic on Rt 1 and as I was gazing out my window I realized who was sitting in the car next to me. That loser Brent I dated and lived with in '98. And folks time has not done him well. He's a pretty sad sight. But he's a pretty sad character. So M and I had our chuckle and finally traffic let up and we whizzed by as he had to sit behind another car I'm amazed his clunker didn't just fall apart right there on the road. You'd of thought so with his sad eyed put upon face but alas no such luck was to be had!

+ That Sunday we met up with Mona, Kris, Lori, Brandon, the new baby and the kids at Longwood Gardens for the Wine & Jazz Festival. It was a beautiful day and we all had a lot of fun. I picked up a few bottles of wine from this one hippy winery called Long Trout who sold this yummy Blueberry Merlot, a chocolate raspberry wine and a Pinot Noir. Yummy :) I also picked up a small box of Eclat chocolates as they were out of the larger boxes. we took quite a few pictures of the family and later the kids went on this big hill with about 50 other kids and we took some video. The downside of our day were there were a few openly racist individuals who remarked on Lori's mixed marriage and even one woman came over to us and implied to Lori that she was a bad mother for allowing her children on the hill. She was clearly singled out since there were many parents standing around. It's really sad that there are people like this still living and breathing she walked off just fast enough that we were just shocked and didn't know what to say and believe me had she stuck around she would've gotten more than ear full.

Anyway here's some pictures etc that were taken:

Watch Ethan dance at the top of the hill hahaha

Pictures under here )

+ Last week was a blur of running around and doctors etc. I received a few emails from Jay. In one he asked if I still spoke with L. I told him no and he replied that that was good that she always reminded him of Lassie hahahaha. He was never fond of her nor Ryan. He was always polite though with them and accommodating to them. I've yet to call him back. But he seems to be doing much better.

+ Saturday although I was still feeling like hell I decided to go ahead with driving into the city to do some shopping. I hit up Buffalo Exchange for some rad recycled fashion and procured a pair of Joe's jeans from the vintage series, an awesome retro skirt, and a silk retro print tank buy Nannette Lepore, and a cute long sleeve top buy RicRac (an anthropologie brand). M picked up two pairs of jeans that he seems satisfied with another Lucky pair and a Diesel pair. The kids were actually on very good behavior. Afterward we walked down to LUSH and I bought bath bombs - All That Jas, Butterball, Sakura, and Youki-Hi. Ethan wanted one too and he picked up Blackberry because it was wonderful. I've promised to pick him up a shower jelly next time. I also picked up a Bathos and Flosty gritter bubble bars, Alkmaar soap, Rehab Shampoo, American Cream conditioner, Goth Juice Gel (free with purchase), Enchanted Eye Cream and samples - Cynthia Sylvia Stout, King of Mods, Almond and Coconut Smoothie, Smitten Hand cream, Happy soap. I promised Alyssa that I'd buy her a gift set for her birthday. Both kids loved the place lol. afterward we headed over to L'Occitane to pick up some cherry Blossom lip gloss and hand cream. Ethan demanded he test a few perfumes and waved around his tester stick saying it smelled sooo romantic - hahahaha. Christie called and we met up with James and her for lunch at Sabrina's (the second one). Later we headed home as I was feeling especially ill after eating. Later Karen came by and the kids ran and played outside for a good long while. That night I watched Darjeeling Limited finally.

+ Sunday we picked up Miriam and headed to the Drafting Room in Exton for Mother's day brunch with my family. Luckily we were all at a table together with my grandparents. I ordered a burger hoping it would help with the nausea and it did a little. I only had a few bites though. But it was fun sitting and talking. Afterward we went over to Home depot so I could buy a few more plants and planters than home to relax.

+ I'm trying to get things done this week. It looks like M's going to have to do the majority of the shopping for the BBQ. I still need gift wrap and I need to make a few salads etc but that'll happen on Friday. Oh yes I need to reply to email etc.

+ My grandfather is coming down and he's going to design some garden beds and flower beds for me and give me advice on some shrubs and fencing as this chain link crap has to go I find it an awful eyesore.

+ There's more but I have things to do around the house now...and I need a shower.

05:45 am - Dream
In the dream I drive up to get the mail (at my parents house).  I don't live there - just visiting.  The mailboxes are up at the road, which is .7 miles from the house.  There are real estate ads, a Current catalog (haven't seen one of those in years), photos returned in those old restickable paper photo envelopes, assorted junk, and some magazine.  While I'm getting the mail a neighbor walks up to meet his wife who is driving home from work - they are new neighbors, not meth heads like the previous neighbors whose shed exploded.  That is all.
