10:47 pm Death has loaned me her top hat for the evening, I'm in a very full black dress, and on my feet are high heeled boots that lace up to my calves. I am skipping through a very empty, wet city street, and it's late...Join me, won't you? Totally exhausted after a very long Shakespeare seminar. Three hours, no break. We talked about Antony and Cleopatra. Not one of my favorites, to be honest. Maybe it's just because so much criticism has come from the Roman perspective, rather than the Egyptian; maybe it's because my 21st century eyes see the play as the "great man brought down by exotic and therefore treacherous woman" trope. Who knows? Long day at work as well. I didn't have any functions, but I did spend my shift setting up a function for something like 250. So...many...tables ...to... set , and the fact that the people organizing the function insisted on listening to RuPaul's "Supermodel" to sync runway cues was like a fucking jackhammer to the head. To the organizer: For the record, miss, you should have listened to your nice friend. That song to walk down a runway? Obvious and tacky, like he said. Might I suggest David Bowie's "Fashion"? Just as obvious, but not nearly as obnoxious... Anyhow, I have an early shift tomorrow, so I had better split.

Comments:
Yah, I agree the Bowie song would have been one step better.

Love this post. Reminds me of skipping around Deep Ellum (USED to be party central in dallas) when I was a bit younger.
Thank you very much :-) The song I was listening to at the time just conjured up that image for me.

You're very welcome. I was just randomly browsing the add me stuff when I saw you. I stuck my head in and ... well I'm rather enjoying the read.
Add me if you want. Most of my journal is locked down. I post and respond sporadically just so you know.

kewl. Added you back.
hope you like poetry. I write lots of it.
You do know you're dealing with an English Lit grad student, right? :-p I look forward to reading your poetry, though I should warn you that a combination of mental fatigue and being spoiled with no shortage of reading material (forced and not) may prevent me from having the chance to comment on every one. Nice to meet you!

Few people comment on my stuff.
;)
I write it more for myself than anyone else, but comments are appreciated. You're really going to hate my grammar. LOL! |
